Overthinking
First of all, we need to be thankful that we have a tremendous ability to think. Just how many species have this gift? We just need to utilize it in the right way just like social media. It can be a boon or a bane depending on the way we handle it.
In simple terms, overthinking is the inability to stop thinking about something for too long. Our mind on an average has 60000 thoughts per day and 80% of these thoughts are negative. If you analyze your thoughts, overthinking is majorly on the negative side and gradually leads to stress and ultimately depression.
Over-thinkers normally tend to dwell on past experiences which leads to decision making issues about our future.
The only way to get over overthinking is to get over our limiting beliefs because of the experiences we have had in our life and overcoming our insecurities and fear.
Here is my take on dealing with overthinking:
1) Focus Shift:
Instead of saying, “My life is miserable right now.” and thinking about all possible reasons behind it, try asking, “What can I do to have the life I want.”
2) Accept:
Accepting your current situation, your past, not dwelling on ‘could haves’ or ‘should haves’ or ‘What If’ can make a whole lot of difference in terms of overcoming overthinking.
3) Mindfulness:
Be mindful of your current environment. Use your 5 senses. What can you currently see, hear, smell, taste or feel? Throughout this whole reading piece, you didn’t think of anything else.
Therefore, the most simple funda is to replace your current thought.
