You’re in a social gathering, a complete stranger to all and you have to be there for some necessary purpose or reason and you have somehow been successful in initiating a conversation with somebody but can’t find a way out to continue your conversation!

What will you do?

Firstly, be proud of yourself that you’ve taken that first step.

Secondly, it’s not a compulsion for you to continue the conversation. For this, you need to know yourself better. If you feel you’re comfortable in your own skin and conversing with a particular individual won’t further your journey while achieving your goals, then you can take a back seat.

But according to me, it’s always a gain to have a strong network, because you never how things will turn out or who will turn up when you least expect it.

The ‘How’ part, I’ll answer in my next post. Meanwhile, I am really interested in knowing how you go about it?

My way of continuing conversations after the initial hiccups if any is my 3P formula — Passion, How to keep Conversations going?

I follow my 4P formula in continuing my conversations with strangers.

1) Passion:

Any situation, time, occasion, you can choose a topic of Passion. It can either be your passion or the other person’s passion because this is something that we are most comfortable talking about. We don’t need to have any knowledge about something to talk about passion. It will just flow, and the confidence and comfortableness will just show up. If the other person does not know what their passion is then Ask them — What if You had one and if still they can’t answer, then ask Them — What would your friends say about your passion if you had one. Even in a funeral, you can talk about how passionate that particular individual was about something!! It just works in any and every situation.

2) Positivity:

Never talk about anything negative, at-least in your first conversations. Avoid talking about how bad something was or is and stop whining about anything in this world! Nobody is interested in hearing about your personal issues in their first meeting with a stranger. When you talk about something positive and pleasant, you never know how it can impact the individual in front of you, how it can give them a ray of hope in overcoming something personal in their lives that they have been struggling to overcome for so long. Always always talk about positive things in life and positive things will happen to you.

3) Place:

Where are you located? In which part of the world? What is the purpose of the event? Why are you there? Is this a yearly event or is it happening the first time?

Start talking about the event with your stranger and ask them their opinion about it. Then you can direct the conversation regarding another similar event or any other event in and around the place you’re in. Whatever topic you’re conversing in, you can maneuver it towards your passion, into your comfort zone!

4) Practice:

Nothing beats practice. In your family there would be umpteen examples on how bad they were in socializing but how good they have become over the years. They constantly pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and the more you meet people, the more you get to know about yourself as well. The more you know about yourself, the more comfortable you’ll get. So practice, socialize, meet people, contribute and you will reap results with your conversational skills!!

Nice Conversation!

How many of us find it really awkward or difficult to start a conversation with a stranger? First of All, is it really required? What am I going to get from it? The other person should approach me first! Ahh, forget it! It’s waste of time.

How important is enjoying your journey?

Change in today’s world is too rapid, and we’re in constant pressure to reinvent ourselves and accomplish our goals. Doesn’t it make sense that whatever you’re doing with enjoyment to achieve whatever you’re up to, chances of accomplishments are high?
